Comment: I've been wanting to ask this question for a long time now but kept on forgetting. You know how you can run a program from the start > run window? When I type "cmd" (without "") I get the command prompt. My question is, it is possible for me to configure Windows XP to run a program by typing a certain phrase. If you guys can, please show me an example how to do this using Winamp as the example. Thank you.

Reply: (edit)Ahhh nevermind I found a way... There is something called "path". These "paths" are the directories that Run window looks for .exe, files, folders, etc. at and execute them. If you go into command prompt and type "path" (without "") then you will get a list of those directories. So if you want to want to type in name/command in the Run window and have a file/folder be executed; all you have to do is create a shortcut of that file/folder to one of these "paths" and type the file/folder name into the Run window. Boom, there you have it!

Reply: (edit)right click the icon-click properties-shortcut tab-target window. if you right click what's in the target window, and click copy, then right click in the run window, and click paste ,then click ok or press enter, program will start. this is the easiest way to explain it, you just need the path to the .exe that starts the program, and type that in the run window, etc.

Reply: (edit)Why would I want to run programs from Run? It's much faster than all the other ways I can think of. Launch bar requires me to take my hands of the keyboard and click click click to get what I want to open. Now with the Run bar I can just type in Downloads and my downloads folder open. It's great and fast way to navigate your way around Windows.
