I have this DOS program on a cd and I would like to launch it. So I read some posts and made myself a Win98 boot disk. When I enter it tells me if I want to start Win 98 with CD-Rom support so I choose to do so. Afterwards I try running the program but with no success. It tells me the same error as in XP. This program must be launched from the cd. What can I do ?

PS: The program works I have used it on win 98 once.

98 supports DOS and XP doesn't.

98 and xp are compatable. 98 will only recognize fat 16 & 32 file systems. NTFS is the default file system for XP. XP will recoqnize either one. Dos runs on FAT. So that is probably why dos won't run. You need to look into installing a extended dos partition.

Are you familiar with the use of SYSTEM RESTORE? If you make changes to your system that you don't like, as long as you can get back into Windows, you can restore your system to a previous restore point. Also pressing F8 during boot, will give you a list of boot options. One of them is "Last known Good Configuration". This also a way to undo a change that you don't like. It is a good idea to check and see if your keyboard works during boot. I have heard of some that will only work once in Windows.
Any way back to Systen Restore. You need to check to see if it is turned on, if it is not turned on there won't be any restore points to revert to. This is what you do: click START,ALL PROGRAMS, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore,(At this point if it is turned on it will give you the option to restore to earlier time, or create a restore point), If it is turned off click the box "Turn on System Restore", either way, at this point click "Create Restore Point" Give it a name and remember the Date. This is handy if you make changes to your computer and don't like them. Walla just choose a restore point, and your computer as good as the day and time that you restore to. It also gives you a option to undo the restore if you don't like it.
