look i've looked at previous threads based on this issue, but to no avail, every program i used to run dos games in my xp didn't work.
The game does load properly with sound, but the graphic has vertical lines running through it and the screen looks so messed up i can only see the text.
any solutions? email faladosofdeath@hotmail.com

no dos in XP.
I find if an older game or program cannot be installed by
way of the CD then use "Program Compatibility Wizard" to install it.
If the game is installed, but will not start by way of
the CD, then when inserting the CD hold down the left
Shift key for approx. 15 sec. to keep AutoRun from taking over.
Now click the game in the "All Programs" list. Should start.
---------------
From a Microsoft web page:If an older application gives you trouble when running
Windows XP, you can set the compatibility properties
manually so that the program runs in a different mode,
such as Windows 95, or in a different display or resolution
setting. To set the compatibility properties for a program:
1. Right-click the executable or the program shortcut to the
executable, and then click Properties.
2. Select the Run this program in compatibility mode check box.
3. From the list, select an operating system that the program
runs in comfortably.
4. If necessary, also change the display settings and/or
resolution, or disable the Windows XP visual themes.
Run the program again when you?re finished changing the
settings. Adjust the compatibility settings again if the
program is still not running smoothly: a program that's
unhappy on Windows 2000 may flourish on Windows 98.

Chuck with all due respect to the above post (and yours are usually good) it refers to Windows programmes not DOS programmes. It stands to reason that XP comes with as many DOS commands as it takes to run it's emulator... if a DOS programme will not run with those few commands selecting Windows 95 (for instance) will not magically create the missing DOS commands that shipped with 95.
Regards.

Yes, we are all pretty much f**ked when it comes to running games that were designed for DOS. They may run a little, but will not run correctly. Also, many older games like "Doom" were designed for DOS and would run in Windows 95... but are hopeless in XP if you want sound and full functionality.
I've even found with VMware workstation that they do not work. It might depend on the soundcard... I have SBlive 5.1Good luck

Well I can run many DOS games fine in xp- Day of the tentacle, wolfenstein 3d etc. with or without vdmsound. If the graphics are corrupt it sounds like your graphics card drivers are at fault. I am using a laptop with relatively basic graphics

Any problems I had running a DOS game were solved by making a Win98 boot disk, and running the game from there. Now I know it sucks to have to reboot but it's a small price to pay for playing just a few old games now and then. I use a bootable CD made from Nero and the Win98 image file. Boots very fast. Load sound drivers afterwards and you're ready to game again.
Give it a try.
