Well here's how it goes. Up to the desktop its all ok. When I try and open up internet explorer though it doesn't pop up at all with no error message. In fact this is the case for most of the windows related programs. Sometimes though i can get control panel up and my computer. When trying to shut down i get an error message
"Rundll32- dll failed to initialize"
now i've been looking around and apparently rundll32 is linked with a whole ton of stuff and is sometimes detected as a virus by some antivirus software. Anyways in the windows system32 file i still find it there. Now I decided to repair it and replace the single application file rundll32 with no luck though. I decide to install another Windows XP onto my computer. A sort of bare clone so if something had gone wrong then i could simply replace the file with the original. I did so and still no luck.
My scrolling is all jittery, typings a bit slow and right now i have to use the internet through my laptop.
Also something i would like to mention is that my video drivers apparently became nullified. As in in the dxdiagnostic, it appeared as none on all of them so i just reinstalled the drivers seeming that may solve the problem but no luck.
Also another thing that i may point out is that on the task manager (ctrl+alt+delete) it still shows "IEXPLORE" as a process. Finally during the shutdown procedure i also get a end now/cancel option on a CSAPP which is also another process. couldn't find much about it. I've run virus checks with latest Norton Virus definitions.
Internet still works fine meaning i can still use things like ICQ, MSN and other stuff which links to the internet, just not something to actually interface to it.

I've tried repairing the files, replacing the files, reinstalling.....The only thing which is far off is a total redo of my system and that would be a major kick in the back side. (installing drivers, ms office, wmp, DSL bah!)

any help would be greatly appreciated

You might try this.

boot up to your original Windows XP version.

put in your windows XP Disc...if it starts automatically just close it.

goto your command prompt...usually

Start>programs>accessories>command prompt

Type SFC /SCANONCE

restart your system....leave your disk in

when the message
reboot for CD comes up (DONT)
let windows boot normally

Your windows will start .. but it will go through and verify all of the original hidden/system files and replace corrupted files from the disc.

It will not delete screen settings, accounts etc.

If all goes well..and everything looks good

you can then delete your second installation.
usually c:\WINDOWS.0 folder

you can edit your boot.ini file to delete the the entry to start your other second version of windows.

Hope this helps
