Hi,
Every time I try to 'Run' CMD, the window closes immediately. When I hit ‘Enter’, the window will open for maybe a half a second then close.
Do anyone have a suggestion how to fix this?

Thanks

excol, Go to the link below and scroll down to line 57 (right column) and download the "Restore the Run Command" .reg fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt.

I have just gone through the same issue this evening trying to run regedit. What I found out is that I had a p2pnetwork virus. Take a look and see if you have a system32 folder in the C:/Windows dir. If not it is being hidden and that opens up another can of worms. Let me know if I can help.

Hi Guys,
I tried the "Restore the Run Command" .reg fix" and it didn't work. I'll have a look at the Windows dir for the System32 folder later tonight.

Thanks

Excol, Another thing ou may want to try is to go to the link below nad download the Fixswen.inf file. Save the fixswen.inf file to your local hard disk, right-click on the file and choose install.

Fixswen Tool

It's worth a try.

The Sytem32 folder is now hidden and can only be seen by going to the folder view options and deselecting hide protected operating files. Then you should be able to see the system32 folder. In there are a few files that have to be deleted. cmd.com, regedit.com, tasklist.com, taskkill.com, ping.com, netstat.com, these are the ones that I remember without a doubt. At any rate my worm was originating from c:\program files\winupdates. Not to be confused with c:\program files\windowsupdate. After deleting that folder and running regedit looking for winupdates, msconfigs and p2pnetwork; I seem to be doing fine.

Now CTRL+SHFT+ESC gets me my taskmgr, and I can run what I need from the win+R keys.

I did an online scan & found my computer has the MUGLY.1 worm. I'll work on how to get rid of this and if I find any way to get rid of it, I'll let you know.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

I have the same problems of regedit.com and cmd.com files popping up instead of the .EXE's. However, they receive an error and bring up the 'End Task' window. I've searched for a bit tonight and have found only instructions to things that don't work. I've searched my C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 directory and found none of the .COM files that were supposed to have run.

Nevermind. Solved my own problem. I was able to see hidden system files, yet those .COM files were hidden, so I opened an empty text file in notepad and named it CMD.COM then moved this to replace the old one. This new file then showed up and I deleted that.
