Seems like I get a problem every week that just has to be computer related.

Anyway, my girlfriend's computer's starting to act stupid. The specs of her system are the ones I typed up for this thread. She's practically updated with drivers, and as well also has Norton AntiVirus. (Currently running a scan for this problem).

Her problem right now is with her Display Properties. If go through Control Panel/Right Click on desktop to get to the Display Props, and then hit the Desktop tab, the error message "Run a DLL as an App" appears that it has crashed and must be closed.

At first, we were like "buh?" So I try and get around it. I figured maybe the picture she had for some reason maybe had a virus. Scanned it. Nope. Then we searched online, and someone with about the same problem had a certain .DLL that apparently had a virus, he quarintined, and the problem was solved. We tried the same, but Norton picked up nothing. I did the next best thing; I picked a random .BMP file on her hard drive, right clicked, and set to desktop. I tried entering Display Properties/Desktop again, and it loaded without a problem. I pinned down the problem when I took a step further:

I clicked on a .JPG on the list of images and immidietely, the error came up. I reloaded the D.Properties again with the BMP as the wallpaper, and it gave me no errors. Again, I clicked a random JPG, and boom: error.

JPG's are causing her Display Properties to fart. We're doing a system scan right now with Norton, (which is weird... because we both have our computers to scan every Monday night while we sleep, and we both ended up clean...), so we're hoping something comes up. Something tells me to be doubtful though, because we've tried just about everything but a clean-slate.

Unfortunately, she just told me that she usually changes her wallpaper through the right-click-a-file-and-click-set-as-desktop feature, which apparently cuts the whole purpose of going to display properties. But now that we know the problem is there, it's bugging the hell out of us.

She doesn't know when this problem could've started. I asked her which programs she's installed lately. The only recent one I could think of was when I installed some drivers and a program for my little $20 crappy digital camera. I went ahead and uninstalled that, but even still, the problem persisted.

Can't say I have a clue what else to do...

Anything else would be greatly appreciated.

Try this:
Go into Event Viewer,
then right click each catagory, then click "Clear all events".
Then make the error happen.
Go back into Event Viewer and look for the event. Maybe it give you more information.

Well, I got something.

File is faultrep.dll

I've no idea what that is.

But yeah, that's the only thing I have that seems significant. Unless you actually need some numbers.

Description of the file is

Sorry. I am no help.
