When attempting to launch system restore, I get an error saying Windows cannot locate rstrui.exe. I can neither go back to previous restore points, or create a new one. Thank you for any help!

A little more info would be helpful. Why do you need to restore? If you have no option but HAVE to restore, go with the earlier date restore. If not create a new backup file. Either way some more info would help me help you

I have been getting many "Windows Explorer has encountered an error and has to close" errors just opening files, switching users, etc.Kids have downloaded who knows what recently, and I want to return to my last restore point when system was stable. I also want to be able to create restore points prior to installing any new software so I can more easily identify the culprit of future problems. Right now I am unable to do either. Previously a Mac addict;Windows is new to me. Thank you!

I've recently started getting a similar error. When i start up the help and then click on the System Restore Link. I get a message saying

rstrui.exe - Unable to Locate component

This application has failed to start because framedyn.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I've found framedyn.dll on in the system32 folder. I've tried the MS knowledgebase but didnt find anything on this. ANyone help?

With regard to my last post... I did a search for framedyn.dll and found it in /windows/system32/wbem/

so i copied it and pasted it into /windows/system32/

it now seems to work.
I have no idea why...I ust thought I'd try it!

Weird.
