Comment:

I have a brand new pc and the setup is P4, asus p5gd2 board, onboard wi-fi lan and on board ethernet, on board sound. I'm connected thru cable with a Linksys 4port router. I have re-installed xp and sp2 and xp with sp1 at least 15 times since I got my new pc, couple of weeks ago. I keep getting the error message "RPC server is unavailable". When that happens, I can't copy/paste, taskbar won't work properly, no sound, IE won't function properly. I have zonealarm 4.59400 and norton antivirus 2004 installed. So far I've:

- logged in as Administrator, went into Services successfully restarted Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator but when I try to restart/start Remote Procedure Call (RPC) I get the Error 5: Access is denied. Could not start the RPC service on Local Computer
- also restarted TCP/Ip NetBios Helper, didn't help
- went into command prompt and tried to start the RPC , got same Error 5
- disabled zonealarm, unable to delete zonalarm, getting error "Validation failed for c:\docum~\admni~\locals~1\temp\vsinit.dll
- tried all this in safe mode, didn't work

Any suggestions? I don't know what else to try.

Thank you for the suggestion, still no luck. I ran the LSPFix.exe and when clicked finished no corrections were made. I don't have Ad-Aware installed but I do have 2 Western Digital IDE hard drives, 40GB on primary and 60GB on secondary. I install the OS on c:\ and create a P:\ for the paging file. I also tried disabling the on board wi-fi LAN but still no luck. Any thoughts?
