Go to Google.com. Type "remote procedure call" in the search box.
That's what I always do first when I need info about an unknown term.

Obviously you must have just been back from the moon, simply because what you described is none other than the infamous Msblaster! symptom.

You need to download Fixblast to rid your PC of the worm and install the Blaster Patch from microsoft.

A word of advice, run windows update for critical patches and update your AV software a little more often.

You are going to have a difficult time staying online long enough to do any updating and are going to keep shutting down as a result of the worm.
Turn on your xp firewall to help stop the continous worm attacks from the internet.
You need to go to properties of your internet connection> Advanced tab> check the box "protect my computer...."> ok

So the worm quits shutting you down...
Start> settings> control panel> admin tools> services> scroll down to Remote Procedure
Call...(NOT RPC locator)> d. click it to bring up properties> Recovery tab> under first failure reset to restart service> second failure reset to restart service> subsequent failures reset to restart service> apply> ok
Now you should be able to get your updates and blaster removal tool.
When all done...reset the rpc service recovery to restart computer (like it was before)> apply> ok.

Blaster removal tool

Hope that helps.
