sorry this is so long, I'm trying to add every minor detail. ...for months and months I have (on MANY computers) installed VPN (virtual private networking) however, I reinstalled windows on my computer, and when I go to set up the VPN I get a strange error. I tried to set it up on another computer of mine, and I got the same error. I'm guessing it has SOMETHING to do with an update or a program or something of that sort. anyway..heres the problem...when I go to create new connection, select advanced connection, and try to accept incomming connections, it stops and gives me the following error "Incoming connections depend on the Routing and Remote Access service which was unable to start. For more information, check the system event log. So. I go to control panel, administrative tools, services, and go to Routing and Remote Access, and check it, it is set for automatic, and I click start, it shows an error which states...."Windows could not start the Routing and Remote Access on Local Computer. For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non Microsoft service, contact the service vendor and refer to service-specific error code 340. NOW. I decided to look online and found nothing about an error code 340. so I went to computer management in administrative tools and looked at the system event log..went to the error and click properties which told me the error ID is 7024 then I clicked to go to microsoft's website which states that the service stopped with an error and the "action" is to contact the person with administrative rights on your computer for assistance." I've tried everything I can think of, please help..thank you for actually reading all this....thanks for your help
Michael

Do you have file and print sharing for microsoft networks installed as well as client for microsoft networks network client? Configure WINS/DNS.Install MUVPN. If your did download the MUVPN software did it ask for like a .wgx file. This file should contain something along the lines of username, shared key/and setting that enable remote computer access over the internet.

I've fixed it now. VERY STRANGELY when I go into Documents and Settings/my user name/UserData/O52ZUD4H and delete the oWindowsUpdate.xtml file which contains practically no command (only contains ""), THEN restart my computer, it works...if I go in the recycle bin, and add the file back, then restart my computer, the problem comes back...it was 100% accurate....I find it to be very strange
