Alright here is whats happining I got a Cable\xDSL router and I set it all up yesterday I just had to goto http://192.168.1.1/ To config it now I changed a few things on settings like turned off firewall and turned off DHCP so i could send and recive files from friends. it was working all yesterday I left it on over night and when i work up it wouldent work at all. I tryed going to ipconfig in c:\windows\system32 and it said ip was 0.0.0.0 without modem attached and I forget what it said with it attached.and now i can't config it at all what should I do?.

I would use the disk that came with the router or unistall and re-install the router(with add / remove hardware under control panel). you may want to check http://192.168.1.1/ for Firmware as well ( I know I used to have a D-Link router that caused me grief before I downloaded a Firmware Patch to fix problems.)Most D-link routers come with set-up wizards that configure pretty well and Syslink routers seem to work well just with XP's plug and play or the disk supplied. I'm not sure why your options seemed to reset after leaving it on overnight but i would make sure to apply / save setting and selected options when you get it working again to avoid similar future experience.I wouldn't worry to much about your IP no#'s as you most likely are using a Dynamic IP that changes everytime you "log" in. If it's a static IP that doesn't change your ISP can provide it for you easily with a quick phone call. Hope that helps cheers.

Heres the deal.
You can't see your router, because your IP range is not in the range that your router will recognize, and give you access to.
It seems that you turned of DHCP, so your IP is now something the router doesn't like

look in the book and get a basic IP that your router likes.
then change your tcp/ip settings to that. You should be able to access the router that way.

hope this helps.

DHCP is the process that supplies your computer with an IP. Without it the computer will never connect thru the router. Also I would leave the firewall active. A person needs all the help they can get these days.

I suppose you have reset the router (powered down and up). This often gets the router to work.

You can check your private network address for your pc through network connections, status, support. If you have dhpc shut off in the router set the ip(of your pc) in the properties of internet protocol to 192.168.1.100 and subnet to 255.255.255.0 and restart and you should be able to access the router.
