I recently purchased a Belkin Wireless G Router (Model: F5D7230-4) Everything seemed to be working fine until some sites have problems. This is not just for wireless connections to it, my wired PCs couldn't access the sites either. For example, I couldn't update information for my domain in NameCheap until I hooked up directly to the modem. When I tried to update the information while connected to the router, it said the server was taking too long to respond...any ideas?

Thanks.

So most sites seem to work and some work only part of the time or not at all? Look for a setting in the router called MTU and change it form 1500 to 1404. I’m not familiar with belkin routers so you will have to hunt for it. hopefully its there.

The MTU is currently set to 1454, not 1500.

Ok, I guess it was set to Dynamic and not PPPoE (which I think it is supposed to be...I'm using Verizon DSL) So I changed it to PPPoE and skipped over the Service Name because it was optional. However, after doing this I couldn't resolve DNS...

Oh, in response to your MTU idea, it doesn't work. It says the MTU must be between 1440-1454...I assume you meant 1440? :P

I assume even after doing that you are getting an IP address? drop to a dos prompt and type
ping 4.2.2.2
and ping www.google.com

since you can resolve names the ping to google might not work but the 4.2.2.2 one should.

did you input your username and password so the router can log in?

no...1404. everytime i've had these types of problems (and working with tech support) they all say the same thing...1404. last time I had this problem I set it to 1404 and it worked....seems to be the sweet spot...but again that might not be the case for your situation.

"does this router have a builtin firewall?"

Yes, it does but I havent enabled any of the security features of it.

"did you input your username and password so the router can log in?"

Yes.

I also noticed that when I set it to PPPoE, I can't access 192.168.1.1 (my modem) but I can when it is set to Dynamic...

I disabled the firewall completely and that didn't help.

Also, I just tried signing into MSN Messenger and I can't...

Ok, well we know it’s a router config problem because you said if you plug directly into the modem it works just fine. Try going through all the screens and disabling anything that you think might be blocking it. (i.e. block anonymous requests, firewall etc...)

The other option is to do a factory reset on the router and see if that helps. Also, you could check to see if there are any firmware updates for that model that might help with this problem.

Also, when your computer receives an IP address from the router…what DNS are you getting? Drop to dos and type ipconfig /all and that will tell you.

did you log in at http://192.168.2.1 and restart your router? Connection type is dynamic. have you tried to restore factory default?

I just skimmed through this thread, and I have the exact same problem. I bought a Belkin Wirless G router, and now, I cannot access MSN Messenger (though, I can connect to the service by using Trillian, another instant messaging program), I cannot access http://my.ebay.com or http://personals.yahoo.com or to access my user account settings and/or apply for a credit card at my local bank's web site. There are several other web sites I cannot access as well.

However, when the wireless router is removed from the loop, and I just connect to my DSL modem using my ethernet cable, things are fine and dandy, except for me being tethered by a friggin cable.

I went into the router through the address, 192.168.2.1, and disabled all security and firewall settings. I disabled windows firewall from running.

The Belkin Wireless G has a "double firewall" or something in it. However, that shouldn't matter, since it is all disabled.

Here's my ipconfig results:

Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Media State...........: Media disconnected

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix .:Belkin
IP Address..................:192.168.2.2
Subnet Mask.................:255.255.255.0
Default Gateway.............:192.168.2.1

So... what do you suggest I do? =)
... And it seems, that another site I cannot access through the wireless router (I just unplugged it and set my laptop back up to my modem through ethernet...) is this one. I couldn't post my message while going wireless. How fun. =)

It seems any time I have to do anything like that, it won't let me, and it just times out, or gives me the error message like i got here, "Bad Request." lol

Help? :)
