Comment:

Just purchased rounded 18" IDE cables for my home build computer. My question is how do you know which way to insert the cables. On my old ribbon cables there was a red stripe along the side of the ribbon that showed which way to insert the connection. Can't find any such thing on the round cable.

Thanks for your help.

Look at the connectors, see if there is a key sticking out on one side of the connector.
Round ide with key

Then look at you drives, there should also be a key slot.

Another way is to look for the missing pin, and a blank pin hole and match these to up.

If it fits, it works. If it fits and doesn't work, turn it around, you won't hurt anything.
