if i go to desktop and right click on empty space explorer freezes what can i do to fix this? but if i right click on any icon it dont do this?

Sounds like you have a problem shell extension( that's where you go to the new in the right click and it shows where you can make a new text document, rich document etc. If you have installed a program that has entered itself in there it might be causing a problem, download ShellExView to eliminate which one if any may be the problem.
