I have a problem when I will right click on the desktop and choose new... the menu will not be displayed and the machine will just hang there. It is the same problem when i go to file > new or right click within any folder and choose new in explorer. It forces me to go into the task manager and kill explorer, although that will not get rid of the menu, it will just sit there and the explorer process will never die... Forcing a manual restart.

I have checked in the registry for any indescrepancies within the shellnew key and windows shellnew folder and it all seems fine.

I have another guy whom i work with that has the exact same problem and we have not installed any similar programs recently and dont really have anything in common...

Heres the interesting part... When i pull my machine off the network the problem dissapears and the new menu will come up without a care in the world... same story with the other guy.

Does anyone know what could cause this... I mean we are both network admins and its sad to admit that its getting the better of us... we work in a school with an odd 1000 users all with there own laptop leased by us and noone has had this problem.

Any ideas?

I sure don't know what would cause it, but if it was me, I'd see if a Repair Install of Windows would work. Sometimes the laptop I use will just freeze randomly and pulling the wireless network card out will cause it to 'unfreeze'.

Timski, The link below may be of some help.

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers
