Hey-
I just realized that I made a huge mistake!! After getting new email addresses, I wanted to set them up with identities in Outlook Express. So, first I tried replacing the old identities linked to the old email addresses with the new email address by clicking on 'managing your identities' in Outlook Express. When I could not figure out how to do that, I decided to delete the identities and set up some new ones. Only, I had no idea that maneuver was going to delete all my saved emails. Okay, first, I thought "well, if it's gone then, it's gone" but I feel badly because one identity in Outlook Express contained all my email correspondence with my significant other. So, call me a romantic but these lovely emails are still something I like to revisit once in a while!! It's part of our history!! So, if anyone has an idea how to retrieve the deleted Outlook Express identity containing all these emails, I would be very grateful for your help. Hoping I can un-do the damage
Thanks-
Sonia

I think you can set up your old accounts in OE and redownload those old email msgs.
Every time I plug another machine into my network and set up OE I get old mail going back months.
You are authorized multiple accounts...... just add back the old ones and see what you get.

Thanks for your idea!! I tried adding back the old identities in OE but from what I can figure out, my server is not downloading any more of my emails messages in Outlook Express because the account linked to this OE identity was closed in December. I have a new email address now. But, thanks for trying :))

Ok, I tried the DBxtract. It said "extract complete" but I don't know where to find the files on my pc. Where did they go in their new format?? And, I just realized that all my emails are in .bak files in my recycle bin. So, I created a folder in 'My Documents' and put all my emails/.bak files into this new folder. So, the emails are still on my pc even though I have no place or program to put them in for now or to open them with?? Surely, there is a way to retrieve them and to place them somewhere on my pc.
Thanks for the input Aegis! I am thinking of buying or maybe finding a free email recovery software. That might do the trick!! If anyone has any recommendations for such as software, let me know!

I just tried DBxtract and it outputs .eml files. They go to the folder specified in the the bottom of the dbxtract window. It defaulted to the desktop on my system.

Hey-
I found a software program (free) called Power Email Recovery for Outlook Express. I was able to have all my emails saved and changed in .eml files. Now, I just have to create some folders so, I can transfer them from this program to my pc. I was hoping I could find a way to return to my identities in OE. I re-created on identity hence, I will try that later on today. If I am unable to do that, I will create a folder in my "My Documents" to save the files in. I also liked this program because it saved the tree (headings of each OE identity) and all emails I had organized. I can also open the emails to make sure I want to save it. If anyone knows away to restore my identities in OE so, I can transfer the emails back, please let me know!Anyway, Aegis, thanks a lot for your suggestions!
