My wife has windows xp home edition. She somehow hit the wrong something which made her computer lose all it's windows default settings, and caused it to shut down. Now, when I restart the computer, it asks for the administrator password. Unfortunately, she has no idea what that password is. Is there any way to retrieve that password, or bypass this? Please help. She's hard to live with without her computer :)

Hello brokn52,
Can you further elaborate on what you mean by "Now, when I restart the computer, it asks for the administrator password." Where does it ask you for the administrator password? During the Welcome/Login screen or even prior to that screen?
It's always nice to have some feed back after things are fixed =)

Thank you for responding. We were able to get past the password issue. The problem was in BIOS, and that's been taken care of. Thank you again for your efforts to help the idiot :) I'm sure I'll be back... all of you are great.

here is the methods I know.
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget Your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you See Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys Twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.Windows XP and further versions also provide another method to recover forgotten Password by using "Reset Disk". If you created a Password Reset Disk in Past, you can use that disk to reset the password. To know more about It, please visit http://www.resetwindowspassword.com/
