Hi
My sister has an HP laptop and one of her friends deleted files to help it run faster. He deleted files that killed 3 files in the registry. I tried system restore to no avail. Any optoions other than re installing the software? She doesn't have XP. If I loaned her mine, will Microsoft detect the different license agreement?

It would help if you desribed the problem better. Which files & registry entries were deleted & what damage has it caused?

If your sisters HP computer is with in the last few years then you may be able to preform a non-destructive recovery.

As long as you do not choose advanced options then Destructive Recovery you should be fine.

"I tried system restore to no avail"
Does that mean you were not able to do the System Restore. If it ran without an error, the Registry was restored and you probably have a different problem.

Hi everyone,
Sorry for taking so long with my reply. These are the missing files:
slbcsp.dll
sxxbase.dll
gpkpcsp.dllWhen I searched my system I find there are two sets of these files. The first one says C:\WINDOWS\system32 and the second says C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
As far as restore goes, when I clicked it, an error message popped up. I forget what it said but system restore wasn't available.
Is it possible for me to copy the three missing files on a CD and past them into her registry? I believe they were all in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Thanks so much!
