I really really hate ie7---can i go to add and remove programs to remove it or do i need to download ie6 first. I didn't know if ie6 would come back on it's own after removing ie7----thanks

All you need to do is uninstall IE7 in "Add/remove programs" it will restore IE6 automatically.

You may not be out of the woods yet.

If you have Automatic Updates turned on, to it's default settings, IE 7 may be installed again automatically - by default it's in the list Automatic Update sources from, or it's in SP3.
To make sure that isn't going to happen....
- go to the Microsoft Update web page and use the Custom search - look at the details of the Optional software updates it finds - if one of them is IE7, you're fine - Automatic Update can't load it automatically if it's there.
- If you don't see IE 7 there, Automatic Update can load it again!!
Use the Express search to find the default suggested updates, or just look at the default suggested updates you found in the Custom search - choose to download and install them. If the IE 7 install is in that, you will see a screen pop up, when it has been downloaded and it comes time it wants to install IE 7, that asks you if you want to install it - click on NO!
(I don't know whether you even see that screen if it is installed by Automatic Update - you may NOT).
From then on, the IE 7 install download will be in the Optional software downloads and Automatic Update won't install it.

This is the easy way to fix it.

Copy this to a Notepad file.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup]
@="1"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\7.0]
"DoNotAllowIE70"=dword:00000001

Save it as IE7Block.reg then right mouse click on it and it and select merge.

You will never have to worry about IE7 again...

I didn't like it at 1st either but I stuck with it anyway. Now there's no going back...tabbed browsing is the only way.

I do not use IE 6.0 / 7.0, as I prefer Firefox or Opera. They have been doing tabbed browser a lot longer than M$ and getting it right.

More secure as well...

Whether you use it or not, IE comes with more than just the files for the browser, and those other files are used by other programs in Windows as well, including other browsers.

Tubesandwires is right. I'm like jam, I didn't like IE7 at first either. Now I prefer it over IE6 and also over Firefox, Opera and all of the many others I've tried.

My advice is to just get used to it.

It's everyone's choice which browser they want to use. I'm definitely not against anyone who likes Firefox or Opera.
