Restoring Compaq desktop to factory settings

May 11, 2010 at 12:32:27
Specs: Windows XP
Hi all! I have an older computer that was given to me by my previous employer. I would like to restore it to original factory settings and have no idea how to do it. It says that it uses Windows XP 2002 edition if that helps. You can email me directly at [removed by moderator]. Thank you in advance for your help!

mylittlebitty you never want to post your email address in any public forum unless you like it to be harvested for worldwide spam.

You many need to contact HP and order the disks if you don't have them

~I was not given the discs for the computer.
~Thanks for the advice about the email address.
~I don't think I want to back the computer up, I want to restore it to original settings. Is that the same thing?

... click "Start" >All Programs >HP Tools >HP PC System Recovery.
(if it exists on your pc)

... you could also try the (click the blue) >> <F11> <key> method
(if the recovery partition exists on your pc)

Try response #7.

You can't perform a factory restore while in Windows.

... you can evoke the HP recovery whilst in Windows (fixed one before)

... see "Response Number 5" HP PC System Recovery

... also it may be the <F10> key

...for earlier models ... non laptops(?)
