I need to restore my old laptop to factory settings. I have backed everything up and therefore aren't bothered about losing things. I have lost the recovery cd and when trying to use the Windows XP Home Edition disk I get the error saying "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer". My laptop is a Gateway MX6932b My hard drive is a Toshiba MK1246GSX I have not been able to find any driver updates online and I am completely out of ideas now as I don't want to have to purchase a new recovery disk. Also I can no longer find any drivers on the Gateway website. Any help is much appreciated!
Definitely a SATA issue. You either need to run the HDD in IDE compatibility mode, OR you need to press F6 at the beginning of the XP install & load the SATA drivers from a floppy, OR you need to create a new XP disc that has the SATA drivers slipstreamed into it.
