restore to factory settings

July 24, 2010 at 09:07:45
Specs: Windows XP
I do not have the CD, and we need to restore the computer back to the original factory settings. I can't seem to find the restore and recovery feature (I am only given an option to restore form a previsou point). Also, when booting the drive, and before the splash screen, when F8 is pressed- there is no "Repair My Computer" feature.

Help- How do I restore?

Try F10 instead.

I did the F10 feature, but nothing happened (nothing happened with the ctrl + F11 feature either). When I press the F8 button during start-up I get the screen as shown that i should with options to reboot, safe mode, etc. But there is no "repair my computer" or "restore my computer" feature to select.

Also, I cannot find the feature when the desktop has loaded, to restore my computer to factory settings.

I am using Windows XP Professional on a Dell Optiplex GX620

Please help.

Are you the original owner?

Did the computer come with the same Windows installation as you are now running?

"...Dell OptiPlex, Latitude, and Precisions use Dell Backup and Recovery Manager as of May 26, 2009..."

... looks like prior to that one had to create recovery disks which could be done through the programs listing menu!

i am not the original owner. It is a company computer, that I have been asked to restore. I believe that the OS is the original, but we do not have the CD (or at least it cannot be found). The Office 2007 suite has been loaded and a few other programs for the purpose of what we do as a business (HVAC software programs). Other than that, it is just weird that there is no function to restore to the factory image (or at least I am stumped as to how to restore).

Did you read the manual for that unit?
