At the risk of missing something.... why?

Can you clarify what you are wanting to do? I'm bit confused because -

- If it's in the recycle bin you don't need DOS, you just restore it

- If you deleted it in DOS the it doesn't go into the recycle bin

So what I'm trying to get at is, are you trying to recover a file that was deleted using the command prompt, or is it one that was in the recycle bin and has been erased from it (or indeed, have you another reason entirely!)? That will help us give you the answer you are looking for - if it's possible.

A file somehow got moved to the recycle bin and now if I click on the recycle bin icon, I get an error message. So I can't just restore it, because I can't get into it. The file wasn't deleted fron DOS. I am not sure if it is in the recycle bin or not. I figured I would start there first.

Is there a way I restore all files that were deleted, say yesterday sometime?

How can you be so sure the file wasn't deleted from DOS? Did you deleted it in DOS? By the way no files can ever somehow got moved to the recycle bin on its own.

You could google for a file called "Restoration." Hope this will help.

The main thing is to fix your recycle bin. What is the error message you get? (Hint to all forum users - "I get an error message" doesn't help track it down!)

You could try a Repair install of Windows. (Will probably destroy contents of bin though).

Or look for files from DOS by resetting their attributes as follows:-

On NTFS disks
cd \RECYCLER
attrib -R -A -S -H /S /D

On FAT32 disks
cd \Recycled
attrib -R -A -S -H /S /D

If it finds a corrupt file you can delete it, and you might find the file you were looking for!
