How do I make a restore disc now that I got this thing running. I can no longer use the restore disc that came with the machine now that I have changed the mother board. I had to take it to a licensed computer shop to reinstall windows XP.If I ever need to reinstall windows on this computer I would like to have a restore disc and not have to go pay someone to get it back on line.
My motherboard went bad so I replaced it. now XP wont boot up. E-machine says that if I change the motherboard the restore disc that cam with the machine will no longer work. I bought a micro atx boa

Do you have a Windows XP disk? If you didn't get a "restore" disk from the maker, you should have gotten a copy of Windows XP.
If so, Just use that when and if you ever need to reinstall.

If your System is working very well to your satisfaction without any error messages or other snafus, you can create Restore Disc (s) depending upon the size of the partition(s) you have data. You need the following:
1. A CD burner or better still DVD burner installed and functioning well in your System.
2. A very good burning Program like Nero 6 or better.(You may use Windows XP's own burning program with its own limitations)
3. A Backup Program that will help you create a Bootable Disc like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image, just to mention some I am very familiar; there are others too.
After you remove all unnecessary files, including temp files, temp internet files etc with Disk Cleanup or other tools, optimising the system with Disk Defrag etc and cleaning the system off of any virus, spyware malware etc, perform a the Disc Image backup on the CDs or DVD according to the instructions that come with the Backup Program you are using.
You can periodically update these Ghost Images as the price of CDs and DVDs are now quite affordable for most.

if i understand your question, that you want to create an image of the current config so you cna restore it to this point later should something happen, your easiest options are to buy acronis true image or ghost. with either, you can create an image and restore it later to this exact point from the created image on cd or another HD. you can also use something like Goback which is similar to system restore but it restore more than just the regstry like sys restore does.

I put the mother board in myself and took it to the computer store
