Comment:

For a while now my computer takes extremly too long to restart, whether in regular or safe mode. When in regular mod, i choose to restart, then explorer.exe turns itself off leaving just my wallpaper. Then the computer will sit on that screen for about 10 minutes doing absolutely nothing and finally turn off. The same happens in safe mode. This also affects anytime i try to do a system restore, for it comes up as a failed restore and nothing has been changed. Can anyone help?

I would try the following (not particularly in this order)...

1. Defrag your HD.
2. Scan for possible virus or spyware.
3. Empty out all your temp folders.
c:\windows\temp
c:\documents and settings\<your name>\local settings\temp
c:\documents and settings\<your name>\local settings\temporary internet files
4. Disable any startup files that don't need to be on.
5. Make sure OS is up-to-date on patches/hotfixes.
6. Change pagefile to static instead of dynamic.
7. Make sure pagefile isn't being flushed at shutdown.

8. Run a full CHKDSK on your HD.
