I recently inherited an old Dell D1226H (aka 1200HS) 19" monitor. I was excited because this monitor is capable of displaying 1600x1200 at 85Hz. However, I have run into an issue with changing resolution. If I change to anything less than 1600x1200 the image on my monitor shrinks proportionally. I end up with blackness on the left and bottom where the image does not go. It's as if the monitor is stuck thinking I'm using 1600x1200 while my video only sends a signal for the lower resolution. To give a better picture of what's happening, if I change to 800x600 resolution, only the top right quadrant of my screen has an image in it, the rest is black. I've heard that this could be a monitor driver issue (though I've never heard of such a thing until now). I'm using an Nvidia FX 5900 with the latest drivers. Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?
