Rescue disk for Gateway laptop

A friend has a laptop thats about 18 months old and had a HD crash.

He can't find his rescue disk.

Anyone know what the Gateway policy is on getting a CD?

seems to me that the best bet would be to contact gateway and ask them.

But >>> from gateway:

Q: How can I tell if my computer shipped with a Gateway System Recovery solution?

A: Here are a few indicators that can help determine if your computer shipped with a Gateway System Recovery solution:

An F11 prompt appears after completing POST when the computer is powered on.
There is a prompt to create backup media after the Out of Box Experience (OOBE).
There is a System Recovery option on the Start Menu. From the Start menu, point to All Programs, and then click System Recovery.
A D: recovery partition is located on the hard drive.
A blank media kit was shipped with the computer.
It is a notebook or desktop computer that shipped with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).
Gateway System Recovery is the only option that ever shipped with the following computer models:

Gateway 3200 Series
Gateway 3200 Series
Gateway 7200 Series
Gateway 4300 Series
Gateway 6300 Series
Gateway Profile 5.5

A new computer was purchased directly from Gateway after November 1, 2004.

*******************************************
apparently someone is lying to someone... all gateway computers shipped after 11/01/2004 didn't come with a restore disc but was known as discless media recovery solution.

please go to gateway to find out what that means...I am too old to be told stories.
