reregistering jscript

August 5, 2009 at 23:51:59
Specs: Windows XP
I think it happened when I tried to install trial of Photoshop CS4 - search window is blank, System Restore window also blank ( :( ), parts of various sites not working, couldn't install PS as it said I needed to reregister jscript. OS is Windows XP Home.
I have installed Script Editor which didn't seem to do anything.
I have been on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831... and tried Method 1, but I am stuck on step 5 as I don't know what to type for path, and 6 as I don't know where to save the new file. I have a feeling I need the Windows CD which I have never had?
I have also tried (and can't find the page on MS Help) typing some registering instructions into the run dialog box but for jscript it came up with an error code. (0-080040 or similar)
Would appreciate help with this if anyone can, thanks :D

ydal, system restore to a time prior was my first thought, but you say it's blank? Start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore. Anything?

Hi Ed
Nope, nothing at all when I try System Restore - not a flicker!
I have, however, found my Windows CD which gives me more hope - if you or anyone else can tell me what to type in steps 5 and 6 of http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831... as I don't know what is required there.
I've also read about doing a 'Repair Install' (I think..) or a fresh install of Windows, both of which I'm a little wary of doing due to my ignorance. ^^

Fingers crossed!
