Is there a list of the required start up files for Win XP. I am trying to eliminate any unecessary files that are loading when the system boots. In REGEDIT I have noticed several files that have no name or desription that are withing the registry. I thought there used to be a list of the most important files that have to be loaded in order for the system to operate correctly. Also is there a list for the same thing for Windows 2000.

Thanks.
Scott

Download startups.exe from here http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php or Autoruns from here http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html or Startup Inspector from here http://www.windowsstartup.com/ to determine which programs are not needed at start up. Remove the unnecessary programs via msconfig.
