I realize that it is possible to clone one drive to another in order to upgrade a drive in XP. But how about simply doing a full system backup using Microsoft Backup (included with OS), doing a fresh install of XP, and then doing a restore? Any gotchas? I assume I'll have to do a full reload of service packs, etc..., but will everything else, applications, etc all come back as before?

If you try it let us know if it works. I have thought about doing this very thing a number of times but never tried it. the question is if you go to restore back up with XP pro on a reinstalled OS, does it work. I have not been able to find a definitive answer from someone who had actually done this.
