Specs: Windows XP, 512

Hi there!

I was repairing my crashed windows XP using the repair install (in-place upgrade using the CD) when in the middle of my installation, there was a brownout and unfortunately I have no UPS.

Now when I repeat the process of repair install, it could not anymore detect or see my previous windows installation. I tried the recovery console and used almost every recovery tool (bootcfg, fixboot, fixmbr, chkdsk) but it was useless.

Please, is there anybody who could give me some advice on this. pleeeassseee.... =)

Safest 1st step.

Slave your HD to another HD/comp ( no need to bolt it in, just cable it & leave it outside the case ) & copy your stuff onto the other HD or other media.
You may have a choice of jumper settings on the master HD, such as master with slave or ms.

2nd safest.

One of the best tools for Windows data recovery is Linux? When all else fails and you desperately need information off of your hard drive, Linux is your safest bet. One of the best CD-bootable distributions out there is Knoppix (available for free at www.knoppix.org). Knoppix will allow you to not only possibly recover lost data that Windows simply cannot access, but also potentially fix hard drive errors and partition tables.

If you want to try getting back to Windows without saving anything, here are other ways.

Hi HohnW...thank you so much for your suggestion. You are very much appreciated.

I will try first to revive my crashed windows using the hiren's boot cd which you suggested.

I will let you know asap if what would it come up.

Thank you again for your great advice.
