After installing 78 windows updates i couldn't shut down my pc and I switched off bravely

Now I noticed two synthomps:
partitions C and D (there are 2 physicals disks, in fact) are SMART capable but disabled (I enabled again at setup)

and, the gravest

partition D: has disappeared from My Computer. the disk manager doesn't see it, but EASEUS Partition Manager does see it. it is unallocated, and although it says it has 0 KB used (empty, so I would have lost 60 GB of data), I am still hopefull that this means data needs repair

question is how can I make D: back to live. If I Create a partition with EASEUS, will it format the disk, so erasing all the data? If so, what free utility or method might I use to re.-assign the disk to partition D: without altering the data, if there is still there?

thanks
santiago

You could try Partition Table Doctor. I have never tried it and so I don't know how well it works.

If you need a free program, I suggest the following two file recovery programs:

PC Inspector (freeware)
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pcinsp...

Zero assumption Recovery
http://www.z-a-recovery.com
The demo is limited
It will only recover 'up to' four folders per run
But you can make multiple runs

They require another drive to copy the data to.

If the data is worth paying a little, I can heartily endorse GetDataBack. It does a terrific job.

This may not be a solution but it's my story of something happening about partitions.

I'll make it point form so it's not borring.

Had internal hard drive, computer messed up. Made hard drive external since I needed info from It. Tryed seeing It from a laptop, WindowsXP or Vista couldn't view the HD in My computer, only in Computer Management. I freeked. I downloaded Recover My Files, two days later I recovered all my 320Gig hard drive BUT it messed up any Ziped, EXE and some movies. But once I got my computer back up and running and had the HD internal, all was good.

Point to this story, download Recover My Files, It's going to be the trial version so you can only recover 4 Folders at a time but you have a chance to get your files back. It took one day to gather 320gigs (320/60 = 5.3 so devide that by 24 hours = 4-5 hours to scan your hard drive..in theory) and another day to actualy save them.

If you run into any problems setting up the application (tricky at first for me) email me night101@gmail.com

Now..i'm not saying this will work for you, it's an option untill someone else posts something better. Let me know.

Whatever you do don't create a partition on the d: disk or you make recovery that much harder if not impossible.

Example of Oxymoron:

Person who is pro life and anti sex education.
Education is key to prevention. Prevent conception you prevent abortion.

Abstinence training clearly isn't working.
