I am using Office 2003 Outlook and closed my personal folder with at least 50 subfolders and now can not find a way to reopen the folder back into my folder list. Can anyone tell me how I can do this as I need to store incoming mesaages into this folder and subsequent subfolders?

Hi Bob,
No, I right mouse clicked on the folder in my folder list and hit close. I thought I would be able to reopen the entire folder but have not been able to.I only did this because I had saved my personal folder a month or so ago as a data file to free up space and did not realise I was closing my newest folder and not the older folder.

Hi Sandyed65,

My option to close the folder is greyed out.

You said that you saved it as a data file, I found the following in help.

Open a data file

A data file is a Personal Folders file (.pst) (Personal Folders file (.pst): Data file that stores your messages and other items on your computer. You can assign a .pst file to be the default delivery location for e-mail messages. You can use a .pst to organize and back up items for safekeeping.).

On the File menu, point to Open, and then click Outlook Data File.

Click the .pst file you want to open, and then click OK.

The name of the folder associated with the data file appears in the Folder List (Folder List: Displays the folders available in your mailbox. To view subfolders, click the plus sign (+) next to the folder.

If the Folder List is not visible, on the Go menu, click Folder List.). To view the Folder List, on the Go menu, click Folder List. By default, the folder will be called Personal Folders.

Also try the folder icon at the bottom of the left colum.

Good Luck, Bob

Sorry Bob,

I did not explain myself well enough in my previous email. I had two personal folders - one that I had saved as a data file over a month ago which I open and close all of the time to access old emails and the other personal folder was one that I set up in outlook as my present filing system for recent emails. The second folder was not actually saved as a data file anywhere else as it was my current folder in use. I still can not understand how I was able to close this file completely because I went home from work that night and tried to do it with my home computer but it was 'greyed out' and unaccessible. Anyway, somehow it has been closed and I can not access it anywhere as the folder I keep reopening through the method you dicussed in your email is my month old file - not my present working file. Any more thoughts???? Thanks so much for your time.
Sandy

Hi Sandy,

I am at a loss but will keep trying to find an answer.

Suggestion; Why don't you ask your IT person at work.

Good luck, Bob
