I have an undesirable html file that pops up every time I log on to the computer. It seems to have been dowloaded automatically as I was on the internet. How do I remove it? I suspect it may be in the PREFETCH directory. What happens if you delete files there? Can I delete the wrong file and have problems? Thanks for your advice!

There should not be an HTML file in the Prefetch folder. It's probably in your Temporary Internet Files fold though. You should regularly delete all files in your Temp and Temporary Internet Files folder.

just for the record you can erase everything in prefetch without issue. what is needed will be recreated on subsequent PC use.
