Can someone please tell me how to rid my pc of "Windows Messanger".?
I have MSN & Yahoo IM's & I'm fine with these 2 But this damn windows version keeps logging it self in even though I went to add & remove widow programs & un-installed it.
Is there somewhere else I can shut this sucker off.?thanks for the help & look forward to your reply,

Go to Start / Run paste this in it...
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
This will get rid of it...

This should be...
Go to Start / Run paste this in it...
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
Then click on OK

Windows Messenger is a stripped down version of MSN Messenger, and is included in Internet Explorer.
MSN Messenger that has many more features must be downloaded.

In Outlook Express Tools/Options/General untick the box next to "Automatically log onto Windows Messenger". Problem solved. No need for reg hacks or attempting to uninstal it. I use MSN Messenger and the old Windows Messenger never rears it's head. It is still there but won't start unless I click on it.

Teach him to fish and his wife will never forgive you.

To remove it go to add and remove programs
Click on add and remove windows components.
On the drop down list remove the tick next to the messenger icon.
Click next and the windows native version will be removed from the OS instalation.Hope that helps

Thanks Wombat. your line worked like a charm.
& just so everyone else knows, removing the auto log-on into windows messanger,in Outlook express, doesn't do much, To remove the program it self all you need to do is follow wombats advice.

Hey, always, I like the help I receive from this site, you people never seem to let me down.
So thanks again
Maxx...

Thanks wombat,
I had installed MSN Messenger, but Windows Messanger kept logging me out. tried the other methods as listed above, but they didn't work. Tried your suggestion and it did the trick, no more Windows Messanger. It even gave me a warning on re - booting to make sure I wanted to delete it.Thanks.
Simon
