How do I completely remove Windows Media Player 9.0 so I can go back to just using Media Player Classic? I have System Restore disabled so don't bother bringing up that crap, thanks. Lol. Is it a complicated process? It must be capable of being done because if it can be installed on the PC, it must be capable of being uninstalled/deleted. Any help would be muchly appreciated. Thanks.

Johnw -
many thanks for your post. after I found it, I pursued some other avenues that I'd uncovered in my search to rid myself and my machine of the pestilence known as media player 9, and encountered a couple similar suggestions.

from tweakxp.com:
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall

from WinInsider forum(anonymous poster):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\WINNT\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall
then, restore media player 2, then 7:
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection InstallWMP64 132 c:\windows\inf\mplayer2.inf
(Point it to the Windows XP CD)
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection InstallWMP7 132 c:\windows\inf\wmp.inf
(Point it to the Windows XP CD)

Seeing that they all started with rundll32 and ended in unistall, I thought they were all the same (an emerging consensus on how to do this!). The WinInsider one begins like yours, but adds the installs of wmp 2 and 7. The TweakXP has the %windir% business. Not noticing the difference, I just ran the TweakSP version.

Questions: Is there a real difference between the two? With the TweakXP one that I ran, a dialogue box popped up that said a "rollback" was under way. Well, the rollback was incomplete because now wmp 7 is nowhere to be found. I'll try the additional commands from WinInsider when I find my XP cd. Did you find that with the command you suggested that those additional commands were necessary to have the old wmp?

thanks for making the world a better place.
