Browsing around in the list of programs that can be uninstalled in Windows XP Home edition, there is an entry titled Windows XP Uninstall. It is taking up about 450 MB of disk space. Since I am going to stay with XP, can I uninstall this thing safely???

You must have performed an XP install over the top of an existing XP installation. If you remove it, technically, it should revert back to your previous install with no harm done. If after you do it and windows wont load, boot from the original Win CD and do a repair on your installation.

unfortunately the first response is not valid.
you can choose to remove backup of previous os,instead of uninstall xp and save the space.
also this only occurs when you upgrade 98 or me,(creating a backup so you can return to previous os)
not related to doing any in place upgrades or upgrading from home to pro xps.
