I have an acer laptop which someone put a bios password on it...Does anyone know how to remove the password...I work for a non-profit organization and acer says that it will cost 100 dollars to fix it. Does anyone know a way of removing it?

you need to locate a button type battery that is usualy accesible by opening one of the panels on the underside
This batery powers the bios
There may be a jumper nearby that is labelled "Clear cmos" set this jumper, boot up, put the jumper back and boot again - this should clear the bios, if not .....
Unplug the unit from the mains, take out the main battery and take out the lithium / button battery. Wait for a few minutes to let the power dissipate then plug the machine in and switch it on. This should have cleared the password AND EVERYTHING ELSE from the bios so you might have to re input some settings

Summary: Just to add a little extra to LZ's comments. Some Laptop's have a small battery backup, just like Desktop PC's have, so removing the Main Battery will not have any effect for a few year in some cases....
