Since installing the new messenger 6.0 it never got rid of the old messenger program, which still exists in the program menu, this program also runs at start-up instead of the new version. I have disabled messenger from services and at start-up but I still cant get rid of it in fear of losing newer program. Also the old messenger has added itself to Internet explorer in the toolbar. Anyone know how to rid me of this annoying problem? I want to keep newer version.

Uninstall Windows Messenger 4.7
Can't seem to find a way to uninstall Windows Messenger? Well, there is a way: Click Start >
Run and in the Open: box type the following command (press OK when done):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
You can just copy/paste the command above in the Open: box from the Run command
