If you desire to format your HDD "hard disk drive" it does not matter if you have a NTFS partition nor a FAT partition. If you have a boot disk that was made via 98SE a NTFS partition will show up as a NON-DOS partition which can be removed with ease. A boot disk is just that, a boot disk. If that boot disk contains FDISK you can do what ever the hell your want. Now, FDISK has been removed from Xp but that is not my point. If you must, go the web site of whoever makes your HDD and download the HDD utility for your drive. They all contain an option to wipe the drive as clean as a babies bottom. WD "Western Digital" calls it writting zeros to the HDD. This will leave you will a HDD that has not a damn thing on it. Well information is still there but for the most part it is clean. I'm tired of hearing you need this boot disk and that boot disk to do this and that. I can take my good ole 9.x boot disk and wipe out any NTFS or FAT partition.

P.S If you are going to use terms like FAT or NTFS, folks please CAP the letters. They do stand for something.

Once again. Excuse my crap butt grammer. It's sad to think that I have a IQ that matters. I think it is sad at least.
Peace Folks,
KTTD

Kevin,
I have to disagree with you on the fact that you can NOT use the fdisk on a 9.X bootdisk to wipe out all NTFS partitions.
You can NOT delete logical NTFS drives in an extented partition.

Ok, Ya got me on that one but one. I am though referring to the basic removal of a NTFS partition. I do though stand corrected. Thank you :)

To remove NTFS, use PQ Partition Magic. You can get it from http://www.powerquest.com. I had a disk made once with a batch of files to wipe NTFS drives, but I forgot what was on it. Will post that if I remember what they were.

From my own personal experience ( 20 years in computers), I have found Wiping out ntfs Partitions using Fdisk from win98se is not enough.Case senario, you had XP installed and Converted it not only to ntfs but also a Dynamic Disk.Deleting the Non-Dos in Fdisk does not work Completely. This is not obvious untill you try and re-install, this is when Errors pop-up.The Problem is you have to wipe the MBR. Fdisk /mbr will not fix this problem. The only Utility I know of that works is MBRWORK. It strips out all partitions and wipes the mbr.I fogot where I found it however you should be able to do a search say in yahoo and find it.

as a point in logic i would be inclined not to remove the partition
but only to be able to actualy format
an xp boot partition ntfs from 1 boot floppy
not 6 8 or what ever xp requirestry it
install xp then try to format your main disk
without a wallet of floppysmy point is simply this
and i infer no degree of knowlage of cpu but i detest floppy disks intensly
perhaps someone can prepair a cdrom image for this purposeas i for one still enjoy win 98 se and me
as they are very much faster at getting around xp i find once loaded slows down to the point of taking longer to get things done that win95
three steps foward and seven years back in time goes your speed edge
even on the shaddy p4 cpuathlone xp rules
but its still fueling a fire with desil
