Removing Messenger Service

While I'm using XP and online, all these spam messages come up in a message box that is titled Messenger Service. How can I turn this off???

Highlight and go to message in top tool bar and click 'block message'

Click on start>run> and paste services.msc into the run box and click ok. Scroll down the list and double click on Messenger. Click the stop button and then set the service to disabled.
