Lots of Context Menu items relate to specific programmes, winzip for instance puts lots of options there.

First place to try then is in the programmes options but if not found there then a spot of Rregistry Editing may be called for.

I have seen Windows programmes which claim to manage these but cannot remember names or where to get them.

A quick Google for "remove context menu items" threw up loads of links.

In the registry, go to HKEY_CLASSES ROOT|*|Openwith List and Shellex should have some things in there to take a look at.

Remove Program From Add/Remove Programs

If you have uninstalled a program but it remains on the list in Add/Remove Programs, you can manually remove it by navigating to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall.

You'll see a list of all the programs available in your Add/Remove Programs Control Panel. You can simply select an entry from the list on the left, press the Delete key, and confirm to remove it. Close the Registry Editor and restart Windows; the item will be gone from your Add/Remove Programs list.

G'day Jesse, to remove menu items from the right-click you have to do this in the Registry. These keys I will mention are completely safe to remove...I have done this since the year dot.

For folders, and drives go to :

Hkey_Classes_Root
...+ Directory
...+ Drive
...+ Folder

and look in the shell and/or shellex keys for what you do not want and delete them. Be careful to only remove what is familiar. I have removed 'find' and 'explore' from here and some program items as well such as 'Dos prompt from here'

Always backup a key first before you do anything [export]. You can also add a new menu item to these locations as well. Some of this can be done from the Folder Options as well if it allows you too.

As for 'new'. To remove items from the new menu list simply delete the ShellNew key from any extension that has it that you do not want.

example

Hkey_Classes_Root
.... + .bmp
...... - ShellNew

Just delete the ShellNew key and it will be gone from that list. If unsure of what extensions have them you could open a new whatever to see what it is and track it down and kill it.

I only keep the text document there myself and all others are gone. You can also add a new 'new' by creating a ShellNew for any extension and add the string value NullFile

New Folder and Shortcut are immovable and can only be removed [why would you] with special editing programs.
