I want to remove WinXp home edition. I have wiped my HD to zeros but xp wont let any other OS load. What program will shred it?

If you've already wiped the hard drive, then XP is no longer present. You have other issues. If you are trying to load something like Win98 or ME, then you need to delete the partition which is probably an NTFS partition and re-partition it with a FAT32 partition type.

If you've REALLY written zeros to the hard drive then there is nothing on it. No OS, no files, no NTFS or FAT partitions, nothing.
However, from what you said it looks like you didn't really do this. The best way to remove XP is to allow the OS you want to install do it for you (assuming it's not something nasty like Win98 or ME).

If you have reduced your drive to zeros then you need to <fdisk /mbr> and then format it as FAT32 (or NTFS your choice) and then your new OS will recognise your drive and install)
Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!

I've done all that. And if I load Me or 98SE, it posts and loads to OS operation then crashes and reboots to OS repeatedly. If I load Xp, it formats in NTFS then loads fully and boots. Also XP loads with Appx 8gigs(AVG, Adaware, and Abit drivers) used on HD(Sata WD 40gig). After partiton Appx 1.8 gig is used. Does XP hide a file with the sys info?

If you reduced your drive to zeros then there will be absolutely nothing on it. Once you have restored the boot record and formatted it it should accept the installation of whichever fat32 system you choose. When you used the XP disk are you sure you selected the fat32 format option as opposed to NTFS?
