Since d/l and installing SP2, I have since received the free SP2 CD from MS. Can I safely delete the C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles dir from my system? I know these files are used by the system to replace corrupt files, etc and SFC would use them also. Could I not just point to the CD if need be?

You will need to create a slipstreamed (updated) Windows Xp install disc for this to work. The service pack files are compressed into an executable file, Windows won't see them unless they are extracted first.
If you would like to create a slipstreamed disc I recommend trying SimpleSlipper2. Once you have a slipstreamed disc you may delete the ServicePackFiles folder and empty the dllcache folder.
