I installed Xp onto my hd. Instead of upgrading win 2k it installed a seperate OS. So when I boot up I have to chose operating systems. How can I safely remove win 2k without messing up win xp?

Delete the folder for the XP. Edit the boot.ini file. Delete the line that points to the XP. All should be good.
Oh... I would backup the boot.ini to a floppy first.

are you referring to the WNNT folder on my c drive? If I delete it will it have any effect on xp, being that my hd is NT formatted?

Yes, the WINNT folder.
When you are sure that you no longer want anything of the WINNT folder, just delete it. If you are weary of doing that, rename the WINNT folder. When you are feeling good about things, then just delete it.
