well here is the problem....i have 98 on c: and xp on d: my boot files for xp are on c: with 98. if yours is the same and you format c: then u lose boot files and xp wont boot
my suggestion for your prob is burn your data u want to save and format and reinstall....or get an extra HDD and move them there and reinstall with format.
as far as knowing which partition has each operating system ....open the drive and if you see My Documents with program files ...windows etc folders then it is 98. xp doesnt have my documents in the root folder. to see if your boot folders are on the 98 partition tell xp to show hidden files and folders and see where the boot files are if they are on the drive with xp then no problem. format the 98 partition and merge it with the other with partition magic etc.... hope this lame explination helps .

I don't know if ME has a folder in it called i386. If not, then the windows folder with i386 is the XP.
