Hi can anyone give me a step by step on how I can get rid of Win Me
from my dual boot.I have Powerquest Bootmagic at the start of boot
where I can select which operating system I want to use. Both operating
systems are on the same drive with there own partion which are active
and each partion is hidden to each other, when I set this system up I
had WIn ME first then used Partion magic to creat the partion for XP
pro and I installed XP into that partion.
i was told in a previous post to do this,
Hi Peter,
Right click on my computer on desktop
Select propertiesSelect andvanced
Select Start up and recovery settings
In the System startup select Edit
Then a boot notepad will open up, highlight the line [string] regarding the win me operating system and delete it, close boot notepad and reboot, you should boot up to win Xp only.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Alan
and thisJust go into Boot Magic configuration and delete the ME option, save and exit.
In the first scnerio it dosent have the WIN ME in the boot.ini file in XP so ill try the boot magic one but after i do thathow do i get to reuse that partion that Win ME is on,in Xp that partion is hidden,do i need to go into partion magic and format that drive or what, what do i do?

Make sure u have your boot magic recovery set handy in case things dont go right, been thre done that. What i would do is as described in your post then run partion magic in xp and make the partion inactive and then format it.YOu can then merge the 2 together.Which OS does your boot magic reside on.

I have bootmagic residing in my XP partion, only problem there is it wont allow me to make the recovery set for some reason. In what part of partion magic do you make it inactive i coulnt find that.

open boot magic and remove Me from the boot menu save and exit and reboot. After reboot, rerun boot magic and in the lower left corner it says enable ,deselect this and reboot. then run PM and format the drive and make it a logical partiton.

Hi Peter,
Just read your post and sorry :( that my tip didn't work. [Although it did for me]I'm sure there will be someone here who can help you with your problem.
Hope you get it sorted
Alan

Thanks guys ill be trying it out tomorrow as you said Zig,and Alan thanks anyway for helping and i think what you said would of worked if i didnt have bootmagic and used just the xp loader.
Only thing im worried about is i havent been able to creat the rescue disks from bootmagic, when i click on the thing to make rescue disks it gives me a error and when i try in the bootmagic window its greyed out.I might try reinstalling bootmagic and see if i can create them then.

Normally when u install boot magic it asks if u would like to make the rescue disk. do it then. IF that dont work install it on another machine and make the disc if u have access to another as its not machine specific.
