Go to start, control panel, security center,
look for "manage security settings for",click on (windows firewall)under the general tab click off. This will disable the built in windows firewall, then you could use a firewall of your choice or none?

Do not run online without a firewall!!! IMO it's more important that an anti-virus program.

dave m said to go to the CONTROL PANEL - then SECURITY CENTER

For your OS you give WindowXP - have you Installed SP2 yet ??

Maybe you're referring to a Third-Party Firewall Pre-Installed on your System when you got it?

A firewall is not going to slow down a download that much. You probably have some other problem.
