I have recently been trying to shutdown one of my computers on my LAN using the Windows command prompt in Windows XP and it always says access denied. It tells me that I need to have administrative access. I do not know how to gain this. I am an administrator on all of the computers. That is the confusing part for me. I can, using one of my Windows XP machines, remotely turn off one of my Windows 2000 computers with out any problem but when it comes to the other XP computers it just wont work. I use the following command in the windows command prompt. Shutdown -s -m \\pcname That's is it that's all I do and it tells me I need to have administrative privileges by giving me an access denied message. Does anyone know how I can log on as an administrator to the other computers so I can have the needed access? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Charles
P.S. I am doing this on the computers on my LAN not over the internet. They are all at the same location.

Hi, Just a little thought, make sure the computer u want to shutdown allows other computers to shut it down remotely. Check it out in general policy editor (type gpedit.msc in run window).

By the way, when i type shutdown -s -m \\pcname, it says the network path is not found. What do u think the problem is ? I have two computers connected together and they r working fine (file sharing, internet connection and everything else works fine) When i type "ping pcname" it works fine too. Any suggestions? Thanks.
