Have you tried hitting 'Enter' with the password window blank?
There are instructions for using Remote Desktop here:

Yes i have tried username and password blank.

I think you have to enter your username. But if you have no password for your system, I don't think you would have to enter one for the remote console.

I get "Unable to log you on because of account restriction. The site you gave me basicly shows what ive already done. How do i even set up a password? I have the username set.

OK, evidently you can't use a blank password with Remote Desktop. Checkout:

You need to log on through Remote Desktoop using an account that exists on the server (i.e. receiving machine).
If that account is in the admin group it shoudl already have Remote Desktop access, if not you will need to add that account on the Remote Desktop configuration tab.
That account MUST also have a password associated with it.
When you are away from home and want to connect you will need to connect via the external IP you receive from your ISP. To amke this easier it is a good idea to set up a virtual domain at someplace such as no-ip.com (free). You just go there, create an account and set up your domain name (such as myhomeserver.no-ip.com). Then you run a small piece of software that updates their servers with your home PCs external IP. So then to connect to your home PC you would just enter that virtual domain into the connection field in Remote Desktop.
Lastly, if your home PC is behind a router you will need to set up the router to forward port 3389 to the PC that you will be connecting to.
Good luck.

Make sure you're logged off of the PC you want to connect to as well or you will get that error. Just goto Start>Log Off then click Log Off. Leave it at the screen that says "Select a user to begin." Then with your IP Address, User Name and password login with your laptop.

Being less than a fan of Remote Desktop, in your situation, I'd set the server up as an FTP server (with password access only). FTP is easy to setup and connect to from anywhere.
Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

I think i may do the FTP or the no ip thing. I will use remote desktop this week. I was able to log on from within my own network i didn't have to do anything to the router. But i understand when im away i need to adjust the router because i will have different ip. I should be able to do good on the no ip thing because my ip is static ip it never changes.

Ok what i have done for now is use my secound computer to log into and i may be able to access the server thru it.

Ok well it works great from within my own network. Now if i can figure out how to set my router to forward port 3389

With respect to some of the comments above:
- FTP will not be of any use if you are wanting to use the applications on the server. It will only allow you to access files.
- Remote Desktop does not require that you are logged off the server before connecting. It will log any currently connected user out when you connect.
As for port forwarding. Just do a google search for your router make and port forwarding and I'm sure you'll find plenty of walk-throughs. E.g. "Linksys WRT54G port forward"

"- Remote Desktop does not require that you are logged off the server before connecting. It will log any currently connected user out when you connect."
With respect to you sir, I made that comment based on my experience. I always got that error until I logged out.

"- FTP will not be of any use if you are wanting to use the applications on the server. It will only allow you to access files."
My bad. I assumed the OP only needed file access.
"I should be able to do good on the no ip thing because my ip is static ip it never changes."
If you have a static IP, you don't need No-IP. There's no sense in adding another factor into the mix.

My bad too, lol. Michael is right. You can log out if you want, but as the link Aegis gave in Reply #5, you can just lock your computer. The Windows key + L key combination will do this.

If you want to allow RDP for users with blank passwords, set "restrictanonymous" to 1 in the registry...
Path to setting is:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\LsaNormal value is 0, set to 1 to allow blank passwords with RDP

If you want to allow RDP for users with blank passwords, set "restrictanonymous" to 1 in the registry...
Are you freakin kidding me? That's like advising someone they should just leave their keys in their car and the engine running whenever they park their car.
